Tag, Tag, Tag…

Im still trying to get my head around the blogosphere. I never knew it was so BIG! It seems to me that I’ve been under a rock lately…Anyway I have done a bit of research on Tags as I want to know why we tag and how it works. Here’s what I’ve found out:

A tag is a non-hierarchy keyword or term assigned to a piece of information. The information can range from an internet bookmark to a digital image or to a computer file. It helps describe the item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching.

Tags are:

1. User contributed (the user determines what tags to apply to an item) or,
2. User defined (the users determine what tag to apply to a concept)

Tags make finding information on the net easier. People can categorise their posts, photos and videos with any tag that describes the item.

Here is an image that calls itself a “tag cloud”
